SANDRA DAY A GONER!

A long-held tradition in the US Supreme Court is that of the “swing vote”, namely the right-wing justice who throws the left flank a bone once in a blue moon to continue to make the institution appear legitimate. For many a year, that niche was filled by first female justice Sandra Day O’Connor, a Reagan appointee noted for her liberal inclinations on abortion, but also for giving us George W. Bush, retiring to make way for Samuel Alito, and ruling against Dr. Zoidberg on flag eating. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2018, and even in her final days her soup brain still had finer legal finesse than Clarence Thomas’s. O’Connor was 93 and picked by nine teams, fittingly also the amount of seats on the Supreme Court.
