Ryan O’Neal

DEATH MEANS NEVER HAVING TO SAY YOU’RE SORRY

Heartthrob Ryan O’Neal has died aged 82. He was first an amateur boxer, but acting proved his calling and he became a popular soaps actor with a leading role on Peyton Place. He soon segued to film stardom, including Love Story, What’s Up, Doc?, Paper Moon, and Barry Lyndon, often using his boy-next-door charms to conceal the darker sides of his characters. So too there was a darker side to Ryan O’Neal, who largely threw his career away as a result of a volatile temper and drug addictions. The on-and-off partner to Farrah Fawcett (on at the time of her death), O’Neal was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2001, and from 2003 to 2023 the only DDP he skipped was 2018. This time around he was picked by Bad 4 U, You Look Dying & Decaying and John Key’s List.
