Roberto Dinamite

BOOM GOES THE DINAMITE

And so the explosive start to the DDP continues… 108 of us scored with a colon cancer-addled Brazilian football star at the tailend of 2022, now two teams repeat the feat on this side of the year. Roberto Dinamite might’ve not had Pelé’s level of superstardom, but was a solid player in his own right. Nicknamed “the kid-dynamite” as a teenage upstart, the moniker stuck and he became the leading goalscorer for Vasco de Gama. He also had a brief turn with Barcelona, and played in the 1978 and 82 World Cups as part of the Brazilian national team. Low-key reports of a colon cancer struggle bubbled up in mid-2022, leading to his death aged 68. Defending champion David Quantick’s Showbiz Pals and last year’s silver medalist Banana’s Peel Slippers both score.
