Robert Hoffmann

THROWN TO THE SEA WOLVES

ZZ Topped broke their 2022 wooden spoon with James Caan, now time to grind it to shreds. Robert Hoffmann was an Austrian actor best remembered as the titular castaway in The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe, a French-German children’s TV adaptation of the Defoe novel that was a BBC summer staple for many years. After the island, Hoffmann acted in various French, German, and Italian-language films in genres ranging from comedies to giallo thrillers. His career began to taper out after injuring himself during a swashbuckler, and he was largely relegated to bit parts from the 80s on. Hoffmann was true to his castaway roots, dying aged 82 on the 4th of July but waiting weeks for The Telegraph to notice his SOS signal and oblige with a QO.
