Terry Neill

NEILL BEFORE GOD

Former Arsenal manager and captain Terry Neill has died aged 80. The youngest captain in Gunners history, Neill first wore the armband aged 20 and scored 10 goals in over 200 appearances. He also played for the Northern Ireland national team, and closed out his playing career for Hull City. He turned his hand to managing, including a brief tenure with Arsenal rival Tottenham Hotspur, before once again best succeeding with Arsenal. He took the team to three FA Cup finals – winning in 1979 – and one UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup final, and twice attempted to sign Maradona. Neill was sacked in 1983 and he spent his retirement running sports bars. He was unique for Managing To Survive.
