Jet Black

NO MORE JET BLACK

Longtime Stranglers drummer Jet Black has died aged 84. An owner of a liquor store and several ice cream vans before taking up the sticks, his established businessman credentials seemed at odds with the youthful rebellion of punk. Instead his store became the initial headquarters for The Stranglers and his ice cream vans became tour buses. He brought his oft-jazzy drum talents to numerous hits, including “Golden Brown”, “Peaches”, and “No More Heroes”, and wrote several books about The Stranglers’ tumultuous years of feuding with other bands and being swept up in a brouhaha in Nice. He was too ill to perform by the mid-2010s and him making his mid-80s (not to mention outliving Dave Greenfield) was a surprise to many. Five teams picked him, including joker points for Punk is Dead, and Hits Of 36 Years Ago And Hits Today continues to get at least one hit a year.
