George “Johnny” Johnson

DAMN, BUSTED

Last surviving Dambuster George “Johnny” Johnson has bounced off into the great beyond aged 101. He was one of 133 to participate in the famed mission that destroyed several Nazi German dams via the use of “bouncing bombs” which bypassed the dams’ protections. Johnson targeted the Sorpe dam, which ended up relatively unscathed as it was the best barricaded of the three dams and had to be targeted directly rather than via bouncing bombs. In his final years he got the typical accolades you’d expect of a “last surviving veteran of noted WWII mission” type, including an MBE in 2017. He was picked by seven teams including Dead and Dusted, God’s Gonna Gettem, Lidders Late Lamentables, and others that are not alliterative. Though surprisingly not Gris Gris!
