Sister Catherine Wybourne

DIGITAL NUMB

Sing, fly, review art, is there anything nuns can’t do? Have an A-game on Twitter, you say? Sister Catherine Wybourne, who has hit her 280th character aged 67, proves you wrong. Her longtime fascination with technology often put her at odds with her Benedictine order, but Wybourne was unperturbed and spearheaded a fusion of faith with social media under the “Digitalnun” Twitter handle. Sharing observations about religion and daily life from her monastery, her thoughtful style won her thousands of followers, who she nicknamed “tweeps” and frequently prayed for. She also detailed a longstanding battle with sarcoma, and announced on her accompanying blog late last year that she was “tidying her sock drawer”, a monastic euphemism for about to die.

Wybourne was first picked in 2015 by former DDP host Spade Cooley’s David Quantick’s Showbiz Pals, a winning entry. He kept track of her since, stylishly nabbing a boomerang hit after 6 years of not picking her. Reptile’s The Love Boat and The Sound of the Underground are likewise rewarded for their vested interest, but Spade is the big winner as it stands for this hit allows him to pip Smart Beta at the top by a single point. This means of the past 10 DDP seasons, only three did not have a point in time where DQSP was perched atop the scoreboard, and two of them were in years he didn’t compete due to hosting. Be very afraid, deadpoolers…
