Patricia Bredin

ALL OR NOTHING

Eurovision’s first British (and English language) contestant, Patricia Bredin was an unknown office worker when offered the gig in 1957 with string-laden ballad “All”. She thought it was a “terrible little song” but agreed as she liked the prospect of being on television. Though the song finished seventh (out of ten songs), the TV spot proved enough for her to carve out a decent stage and screen career. With her death aged 88, Dane Birthe Wilke becomes the last surviving participant of the 1957 Eurovision contest, while taking the glass microphone tonight are Forgotten But Not Gone and Time’s-up Team.
