KENZABORU OWIE

Now to pay homage to the man whose death was far too much of a technical headache for the DDP system. Japanese author Kenzaburō Ōe was influenced by French and American literature (Mark Twain was a particular favourite) as well as his upbringing during WWII. Recurring themes included a harkening to his WWII upbringing, pointed critique of post-war Japanese policy, and his own experiences as the father of a disabled child. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1994, though rebuffed Japan’s Order of Culture as it would’ve been bequeathed by the Emperor. He was 88 and was picked by Nobel Lit recipients library Literarily Dead.
