The actress Joyce Reynolds, also a DDP pick, died recently with so little fanfare that her passing was only uncovered via an online people database. No such misfortune for the classicist Joyce Reynolds, with the Telegraph rolling out an obit the day after her death, aged 103. Noted for her expertise in inscriptions, the crown jewel of her career was her studies of the Greco-Roman city of Aphrodisias (now in modern-day Turkey). The high quality of marble in Aphrodisias meant an atypically high number of inscriptions survived, and her research altered historians’ prior perceptions of the city. She also tutored Mary Beard among other students. Three teams re-Joyce, including a quantity not quality hit for top ten-er Carkers Convention 2022.
