HUNG OUT TO DRIES
Former Dutch PM Dries van Agt has died aged 93. He served for five years from 1977 to 1982, where he was noted for his penchant for archaic vocabulary. He largely governed from the centre as PM, though post-office he veered leftward. In his later years he was notably outspoken against Israel policy in Palestine and was ahead of the curve in deeming Netanyahu as worthy of the Hague.
Van Agt died by joint euthanasia with his wife, proffering his two pickers a surprise three bonus points. Why did he undergo euthanasia? Old age and frailty, or perhaps disgust at current events? No. It was that he remembered Piet de Jong never got a QO and knew he had to go out in style.
