Poker sensation Doyle Brunson has folded aged 89. The grinning Southern gent nicknamed “Texas Dolly” was one of the game’s definitive figures, with his greatest feat being back-to-back wins in the World Series of Poker in 1976 and 77. He crossed the million dollar winnings Rubicon in that same time period, and penned influential poker bible Super/System to show how he did it. Still a formidable player in his 80s, he retired in 2018 with a lifetime winnings north of six million dollars. He did it all in spite of receiving a terminal cancer diagnosis in 1962 where he was initially thought to have months to live.
