South Korean actor Byun Hee-bong has died aged 81. Byun was long a recognisable face on Korean TV as a fish-out-of-water character actor. Into the 21st century he became known for his collaborations with Bong Joon-ho, leaving an early impression as an eccentric dog-eating janitor in Barking Dogs Never Bite. Further acclaim would come with crime drama Memories of Murder and monster horror The Host, where his portrayal of a steely father won awards. Byun was picked by Criterion Afterlife Edition.
