Angelo Badalamenti

FALLEN

The musical voice of David Lynch’s worlds, Julee Cruise, died earlier this year, now it’s time for his soundtrack to follow suit with the death of Angelo Badalamenti, aged 85. On this form, apologies in advance to any Bobby Vinton fans. Badalamenti had been active in the music business for years, working with reputed figures like Nina Simone with weird nadirs inbetween such as writing a Christmas novelty song in the throes of Beatlemania about wanting Ringo Starr for Christmas. His most fruitful partnership with Lynch began on Blue Velvet, where he was hired as vocal coach to Isabella Rossellini and ultimately crafted “Mysteries of Love”. From there his ethereal soundtracks would set the stage for much of Lynch’s oeuvre, with his work on Twin Peaks (including iconic theme song “Falling”) his magnum opus. Other Lynch collaborations included The Straight Story and Mulholland Drive. He was the third unique hit for a Crumble outfit this year, which seems underwhelming given his usual form for sniffing out fascinating solo hits.
