Yvette Mimieux

TIMED OUT MACHINE

The Time Machine actress Yvette Mimiuex has died shortly after her 80th birthday. Her breakout role in the 1960 sci-fi classic remains her most enduring, where she portrays peaceful Weena of the Eloi race. She was the last surviving main cast member of the film. Another noted appearance rolled along later that year in the Connie Francis vehicle Where the Boys Are, a mostly-lighthearted teen comedy that experienced a dark shift in tone after Mimieux’s character was sexually assaulted. Her roles, typically that of vulnerable women, often dismayed her due to their one dimensionality, and her acting roles dwindled before she fully retired in the early 90s. She spent her remaining years pursuing a diverse range of interests, including selling Haitian products and studying archaeology. People Who Could Die 2022 gets their first hit with a person who could die, and did.
