Ronnie Fearn

RONNIE, RONNIE, RONNIE, WHY DID YOU GO…

Longstanding Rons theme team …and its goodnight from him was almost retired this year, and the decision against seems to have paid off with it achieving the two Ronnies milestone before February. That second hit was former Southport MP Ronnie Fearn, Baron Fearn, who has died aged 90. Nicknamed “Mr. Southport” due to his local popularity, he contested Southport’s Parliament seat multiple times before succeeding in the 1987 election as a Lib Dem. He lost reelection, but returned to his old seat for a final term in 1997 and later resided in the House of Lords.  He remained close to his roots while part of national politics – he was a local councillor until 2016 and a fixture of Southport’s pantomime scene. A shame the DDP has no bonus points for panto!
