Marty Krofft

LAND OF THE LOST

Marty Krofft followed elder brother Sid into the puppet business, and the duo were behind a series of low-budget, cult favourite children’s programmes during the 60s and 70s. Their biggest hit was H.R. Pufnstuf, starring a boy and the titular puppet dragon squaring off against the evil Witchiepoo. McDonald’s borrowed so blatantly from Pufnstuf’s world for McDonaldland that the Kroffts took it to court and won. They were also known for The Banana Splits, a Hanna-Barbera collaboration featuring an animal rock and roll band, and sci-fi flavoured Land of the Lost, where a family gets trapped in an alternate universe ruled by dinosaurs. I thought we were already ruled by dinosaurs? Krofft was 86 and picked by three teams, naturally including sid and marty coffin.
