I mean he was 102 FFS. Pathologist Anthony Epstein had speculated that Burkitt’s lymphoma was caused by a virus. He and his assistant, Yvonne Barr, worked futilely for months to cultivate the cancer and uncover the virus. Working from London, a sample of the cancer from Uganda had to be flown to Manchester instead due to fog in London. The extra day of travel proved crucial, as the culture was noticeably cloudy and gave Epstein and Barr enough material to conclusively identify what is now known as the Epstein-Barr virus. It was the first known virus to cause cancer, and Epstein dedicated much of his life to researching potential vaccines for it. He was unique for NoSoup4U!
