CRUMBLE GETS A CLWYD

2023 has been a lean year at Crumble headquarters. Their ability to bring eclectic unique obits to the forefront is second-to-none in the DDP, but most Crumble deaths this year have been yesteryear 2021/22 picks he didn’t reup for this go around. Thus, fascinating as they are, I couldn’t write about The Bitch director Gerry O’Hara, sword-and-sandal hunk Ed Fury, astrologist Mystic Meg, high jumper Dick Fosbury, Mail columnist Ann Leslie, or bereaved father and campaigner John Ward, who was actually the toughest committee eligibility ruling of the 2021 season despite being a Crumble pick!

Better late than never though, and the Crumbles (in this case Apricot Crumble) have finally hit the bullseye with Welsh Labour MP Ann Clwyd. Her 35 years representing Cynon Valley were marked by a rebellious streak that often saw her sacked from her governmental positions, whether it be pushing back against nuclear spending or parking her car in Speaker’s Court. Her longtime activism for human rights included advocacy for the Iraqi people suffering under Saddam, though this later led to misguided (and admittedly common for the time) cheerleading for the War in Iraq. She was 86 and the first hit this year for a Crumble outfit, unique or otherwise.
