Spade Cooley (better known for his team David Quantick’s Showbiz Pals) makes his debut. Though not on the winning side, theatre actor John Reed was one of the most underrated DDP hits – a unique who died on 13 February, his 94th birthday. Other notable deaths included J.D. Salinger, Michael Foot, Dennis Hopper, Alex “Hurricane” Higgins, Tony Curtis, Leslie Nielsen and Captain Beefheart.
