MEISNER TAKEN TO HIS LIMIT

The Eagles will be takin’ it easy with the death of founding member Randy Meisner, aged 77. Meisner was a journeyman throughout the 60s music scene, circulating through minor bands such as the Poor, Poco, and Ricky Nelson’s backing group. Touring with Linda Ronstadt crossed his paths with Don Henley, Glenn Frey, and Bernie Leadon, and birthed (hatched?) the Eagles in the process.

They took the music world by storm with monster hits such as “Hotel California” and “Lyin’ Eyes”, and in some eyes, committed the worst musical crimes since Pat Boone. In my eyes, they’re just kind of okay. Meisner typically took up bassist and backing vocalist duties, though did get his day in the spotlight as the lead vocal on “Take It to the Limit”. However, he was unwell from personal turmoil and the stress of a lead song spurred him to split from the band. Meisner long struggled with the bottle, and after his wife accidentally and fatally shot herself in 2016, his health further declined. He was a unique for Are You Still Dying, Darling?
