Johnny Ruffo

RUFF AND READY

Home and Away, the Australian version of that John Wayne film shot near a nuclear testing site, strikes again… Johnny Ruffo first broke to fame as a singer, making the finals of the Australian The X Factor with a music style influenced by Michael Jackson. He followed suit with hit single “On Top”, which summed up the next few years for him with stints on Dancing with the Stars and Home and Away keeping him in the Down Under public eye. Then a brain tumour came crashing in in 2017, and despite bouts of remission, by summer of 2022 he was talking in “hopefully I get another Christmas” terms. He was 35 and was a must-have for any serious contender, keeping Banana’s Peel Slippers On Top and probably closing off the upset route for Windsor the Troll and, erm, Banana (the B team version).
