I’LL BE AGROUND

Last surviving original Spinner (that’s Detroit Spinners, not the folkies) Henry Fambrough has died aged 85. The group formed in the late 50s and tried their hand at doo-wop and Motown, but didn’t truly hit their stride until refashioning themselves as a Philadelphia soul act in the 70s. The classic “I’ll Be Around” was their breakout hit, and they rode out the decade with a further stream of successes including “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love”, “The Rubberband Man”, US-topping Dionne Warwick duo “Then Came You”, and UK-topping Four Seasons cover “Working My Way Back to You”. While their chartmaker days were over by the early 80s, they continued to tour and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year. Then came points for Manifest Death-stiny and The Survivors.
