Toby Keith

DEAD WHITE AND BLUE

All-Murrican country singer Toby Keith has died aged 62. A regular on the country charts with hits like “Red Solo Cup” and “Should’ve Been a Cowboy”, he was known for his carefully considered lyrics that roughly went God God God flag flag flag Dubya Dubya Dubya war war war America America America. His jingoist shtick saw him butt heads with the rare more progressive-minded country stars. The great Kris Kristofferson absolutely demolished Keith’s military propaganda by pointing out only one person in the room served, and it ain’t Toby. And after Keith released a heavy-handed 9/11 response song, lead Dixie Chick Natalie Maines wore a shirt that said “FUTK” in response. Keith was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2022 and hideously haggard pictures of him in late 2023 raised enough eyebrows for a Drop 40 slot. Many competitive teams avoided him as they did his music, but one team who didn’t was Day in the Death, allowing him to recoup the lead and remain in title contention despite his casual avoidance of Jason Smith and Stuart Gray.
