Tran Thiem Khiem

Vietnamese politician Tran Thiem Khiem has died aged 95. A key advisor to Ngo Dink Diem he helped assassinate the President in 1963. (That’s in Vietnam, not Kennedy.) He was exiled to the USA, but later returned to be Prime Minister, before making another exit soon before the Fall of Saigon. He survived the Vietnam War as every side in the conflict assumed he knew where their skeletons were buried and could double cross them, and to be fair, this was probably true. Even at the 11th hour, conspirators to execute the South Vietnam President didn’t know if Khiem was on their side, or bluffing, or double bluffing, or triple bluffing. He lived a comfortably retirement in California. He was a unique pick for Lt Colonel Kilgore’s Ultimate Surf Party.
