Gordon McQueen

GRIEVE MCQUEEN

Scottish footballer Gordon McQueen has died aged 70. Brought onto Leeds as Jack Charlton was retiring and the team needed a player of a similar mould, the hulking McQueen delivered with his stubborn heading. He was also noted for his playing with Manchester United and the Scottish national team, and perhaps his finest moment came internationally in 1977 when scoring a winning goal against England at Wembley. He turned to punditry until a 2011 throat cancer diagnosis curtailed it. A cult DDP pick the next year, a 2021 dementia diagnosis brought him back to the deadpooling forefront and he scores for six teams, including 12 Lords A-Leaving, 8 Ladies Dying and a joker for Funeral Directors Apprentice 2023.
