Doug Sandom

The Pete Best of mod rock… Doug Sandom was a bricklayer by trade, but had a sideline playing drums for a variety of London-area bands at the turn of the 60s – most notably a bunch of upstarts called The Detours. However, he was already in his mid-30s by the time The Detours got close to a record deal. A decision was taken by the group’s producer, Chris Parmentier, and central figure Pete Townshend to replace him with a younger model. That younger model was, of course, Keith Moon, The Detours became known as The Who and the rest is history. In his autobiography, Townshend admit regret over the decision and said “I missed his guidance. With Doug as my friend I believe I could have been a better man.” Or you could have just blocked the kiddy porn sites from your web browser, Pete.
