Charles Kimbrough

DIALED BACK

Actor Charles Kimbrough has died aged 86. He was best known as sturdy news anchor Jim Dial on Murphy Brown, a character in the Cronkite mould who served as a contrast to Candice Bergen’s spunky, Dan Quayle-baiting titular investigative reporter. He was also Tony nominated for Company and voiced gargoyle Victor in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. His wife, Beth Howland, died back in 2015 but wasn’t announced until months later, and now husband follows wife with Kimbrough’s mid-January death only being reported in early February. He reprised Jim Dial in a Family Guy episode – crucial for DDP purposes, as it qualified him for the Quahog-situated theme team He’s Not The Family Guy.
