Bill Hayes

BILLY, BILLY CARK IT

King of the deadpool frontier… Soaps actor and singer Bill Hayes has lost him a pulse when he was 98. His music career came first, and he topped the US charts in 1955 with “The Ballad of Davy Crockett”, a ditty about the frontiersman who I will never be able to differentiate from Daniel Boone. He was the last living solo artist to top the US charts pre-Bill Haley, though surviving members of the Chordettes, Four Lads, and Crew-Cuts remain.

After his music career fizzled out, he turned to dramatic roles, and bagged his biggest in 1970 as Doug Williams in Days of Our Lives. His character remained with the soap (with a few hiatuses inbetween) until his death, and he formed one of the earliest soap supercouples with Julie Olson (played by his IRL wife Susan Seaforth Hayes). One of his final DoOL storylines involved him being possessed by Satan, and four teams possessed him this go-around.
