ROCCO’S MODERN DEATH
French cinema icon Alain Delon has died aged 88. Known for his heartthrob looks and icy gaze, he epitomised cool and proved equally adept at warm romantic roles and chilling villains. Among his most acclaimed roles include con man Mr. Ripley in thriller Purple Noon, a noble reluctant boxer in sports drama Rocco and His Brothers, a hotheaded revolutionary in historical drama The Leopard, and a chilling assassin in neo-noir crime thriller Le Samouraï. His films influenced Coppola and Scorsese and he received an honorary Palme d’Or in 2019. His off-screen life was considerably dodgier with abusive relationships and support of Jean-Marie Le Pen, and his final few years were embroiled in the Casey Kasems. He was picked by five teams, including Oscar The Beast and obligatory French theme teams.
