Shaun Greatbatch

NEIN HEART MAN

Darts player Shaun Greatbatch is busted aged 52. Best remembered for being the first player to perform a perfect nine-dart finish while on live TV, he garnered the nickname “Nine Dart Man” for the feat. More pertinent to the deadpooling world was a long, long-term battle against multiple myeloma that made him a popular pick in the days when we were waiting impatiently for the Lockerbie bomber to die. By the mid-2010s, only a couple of teams were doggedly clinging on to him, and they too gave up by 2018. Greatbatch seemed determined to die on the List of the Missed, only for BREATHLESS IN SEATTLE to bring back a name they hadn’t selected since 2011 and receive a great batch of points. The verdict is still out whether or not they can apply the same magic to fellow returnee Scott Thorson.
