The DDP is always bound to have a few gambles on an upstart athlete whose career is curtailed by a cancer diagnosis. Ice hockey player Rodion Amirov was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2020 and had a promising career ahead of him, but a little puck growing in his brain had other plans. The 21-year-old can at least claim that, alongside Henry Dickerson, he helped Banana’s Bruisers charge from midtable obscurity to the top ten.
