Richard H. Truly

TRULY DEAD

Ex astronaut and NASA administrator Richard H. Truly has died aged 86. He was one of the final astronauts to be hired under the Apollo programme and one of the first to fly on a space shuttle. His missions proved the Columbia shuttle was reusable and pioneered usage of robot arms, but all of that pales to the fact his wake up call came from Miss Piggy and the other “Pigs in Space” Muppets. As NASA administrator, he followed Carl Sagan’s suggestion to have Voyager 1 take one final photo (the now-iconic Pale Blue Dot) and helped plan the International Space Station. He was then abruptly fired by Dan Quayle, reportedly because he refused to humour the notion that the Earth revolved around a giant potatoe. He was picked by Apollogies For Still Living.
