Raymond Cauchetier

FINAL WAVE FOR RAYMOND

French photographer Raymond Cauchetier has died aged 101.  A member of the French Resistance (I shall say this only once) in World War Two, he made his career as a photographer with a series of shots of Cambodia in the 1940s and 1950s. These photo collections latter met a critic in Pol Pot’s Khmer Rouge regime, who had them all destroyed. By then, Cauchetier had made a name for himself in his homeland, working with Jean-Luc Godard and the late great Francois Truffaut on photographing the great French New Wave films of the 1960s.  He was a unique pick for Vive le France et la mort, with his death being speed along by covid.
