BLAZEVIC ABLAZE

Croatian footballer and manager Miroslav Blazevic has died a day before his 88th birthday. Recognisable by his white scarf good luck charm, he steered the Croatian national team to an impressive third place in the 1998 World Cup. The “coach of all coaches”, as his homeland called him, also had stints managing Switzerland, Iran, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. He later threw his hat into the political ring, receiving less than a percentage point in the 2005 presidential election. A longterm prostate cancer had him on several deadpoolers’ radars, but his age meant he was restricted to B Team Banana’s Bruises.
