Mike Bossy

BOSSY ALL MOSSY

A field hockey player was covered in this update batch, now it’s ice hockey’s turn with New York Islanders great Mike Bossy gone cold from lung cancer at 65. Playing with the Islanders for his entire NHL career, his impressive goalscoring was integral to their string of Stanley Cup wins in the early 80s. He was part of the team’s “Trio Grande” of forwards with Clark Gillies, who died in January, and Bryan Trottier, who is no longer procrastinating on his will. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1991, named as one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players in 2017, and notched a lot of playing records at the time, several of which even survived Gretzky. One of his then-records that fell was the most career hat tricks, and fittingly three teams picked him, providing a differential to Skate Dumpers and regulars Going Underground and Misers.
