Mel Stottlemyre Sr

A great example of how deadpooling has been changed by the traffic needs of British news organisations. Mel Stottlemyre Sr was a baseball player who had been afflicted by cancer, on and off, since 1999. His original DDP bio read “Very unlikely to get a UK obit.” However, it’s 2018 and, upon Mel reaching strike 3, the Daily Mail came through with the QO within an hour. Stottlemyre played for the New York Yankees from 1964 to 1974, and was widely seen as their star player during the team’s worst-ever spell. He later won five World Series as a coach, with both the Yankees and the New York Mets. A graduate member of the winning 2014 DDP side,  he dies a member of two sides four years later.
