Born Betty Adams, Julie Adams was a local beauty queen before she got the chance to join the Hollywood star system, becoming a contract player with Universal-International around the same time as Rock Hudson, Tony Curtis and Piper Laurie. Most of her starlet career was spent in the world of westerns, providing a love interest for the likes of Tyrone Power, Joel McCrea and Glenn Ford. However her most iconic role was as the bathing beauty Kay who gets abducted by the titular beast in Creature from the Black Lagoon, and she was still doing conventions and autograph signings off the back of that movie well into her late 80s.
Those of us of an 80s disposition may also remember her as the oversexed realtor Eve in Murder, She Wrote. Her death sees three teams get their maiden hit of the year.
