Joss Ackland

DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY REVOKED

Actor Joss Ackland has died aged 23. He was one of the busiest actors for decades, with over 130 film credits to his name and believed to have more stage credits than any living actor from Falstaff to Juan Peron. Perhaps his finest moment on the silver screen was as the cuckolded baronet Jock Delves Broughton in historical drama White Mischief, where he kills his wife’s lover before his own suicide. He also had a memorable turn as a killer drug dealer in Lethal Weapon 2 whose diplomatic immunity gets unforgettably revoked by Danny Glover’s bullet. A self-confessed workaholic, he regretted plenty of his projects like Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey and Pet Shop Boys sideproject It Couldn’t Happen Here, but as the man himself put it “I don’t mind giving crap a touch of class.” His death brings gravitas to a dozen teams, among them Lard Bazaar, No Weddings and Twenty Funerals, and Simply Dead.
