John Warner

DIVORCED (NOT BEHEADED) DEAD

Former US politician John Warner has died aged 94. He was the US Senator for Virginia from 1979 to 2009, and had previously been Richard Nixon’s Navy Secretary. Warner was originally runner up in his primary, seen as not as reliably right wing enough, but then his opponent died in a plane crash. In the Senate, he was regarded as a centrist Republican, which is what they call a Republican who doesn’t want to overturn Roe v Wade and likes gay people. He supported the Brady Bill on gun controls, and was one of the fourteen Republicans who spoke out against the Iraq War and treatment of prisoners in 2006, alongside John McCain (since dead) and Lindsay Graham (since become a Stepford Smiler). However he gave the Bush administration the nine-year-loophile with his infamous compromise.  He was a unique pick for Apricot Crumble, carrying on a good run of form for that chap. He also married Liz Taylor.
