Federico Bahamontes

HOLY TOLEDO!

Cyclist Federico Bahamontes was the earliest and oldest surviving Tour de France champion, winning the race in 1959. The first Spanish champion, he was noted for his prowess on mountain courses and was nicknamed “The Eagle of Toledo” after winning the “King of the Mountains” distinction on all three Grand Tours. Amidst all these milestones, he also found time to stop for ice cream during the 1954 Tour de France! In fairness, one of his wheel spokes broke and he was passing the time while waiting for repairs to arrive. He was 95 and three teams scream.
