DICK BUPKIS

Fearsome NFL star Dick Butkus has died aged 80. Playing his entire professional career with the Chicago Bears, his brutal steamroller playstyle portended the aggressive, CTE-inflicting direction the NFL would take and is considered the gold standard for linebackers. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1979 and often ranks in the top ten of the sport’s greatest ever players. After retiring, he parlayed his NFL stardom into a film and TV actor and pitchman whose roles were usually pisstakes of his tough guy image, and Rocky Balboa’s fierce Bull Mastiff was named after him. Perhaps the finest tribute to him was paid by the DA BEARSSS themselves, who won their first game in nearly a year the night he died. Funny names squad Rolls Off The Tongue was the only team to tackle his mortality.
