Dario G (Paul Spencer)

CARNAVAL DE PERISH

90s dance phenom Paul Spencer AKA Dario G has died aged 53. Paul Spencer was one third of the Dario G trio who had chart success with Dream Academy-sampling “Sunchyme” (a UK #2 assured to plateau there by dint of facing “Candle in the Wind 1997”) and footy anthem “Carnaval de Paris”. Spencer pursued the Dario G project as a solo act once the other members got bored, and this millennium he collaborated with Shirley Bassey and Pitbull (not on the same song). He was diagnosed with stage 4 rectal cancer last year, and though his youth left many suspecting a Greg Gilbert-length bout, a shrewd gamble by 28 teams includes top 10 breaches for It’s A Grim World After All, Octopus of Odstock, Southerners Stiffs, and Fade to Black.
