No One Can Hear Them Scream

The quiet spell continues this week with only two new angels to report:

Film

Tom Skerritt was the last remaining male cast member from 1979’s Sci-Fi Horror masterpiece Alien. Emphasis on the was, as he’s passed away at the age of 93. Skerritt played Captain Dallas, the leader of the doomed Nostromo whose main contribution to the plot was failing to do much actual leading and then getting a terminal case of jazz hands in an air duct after his great plan to flush out the title star failed almost immediately. 2D tracking systems don’t really work very well in air shafts with multiple levels it turns out. Don’t make his mistake if you find yourself trapped somewhere with a xenomorph!

Other films across his career included M*A*S*H, Top Gun, The Dead Zone, and the sadly unappreciated Contact. He also netted an Emmy for his leading role in the CBS drama Picket Fences. Leaving only Veronica Cartwright and Sigourney Weaver still among the living from his most famous film, Skerritt nets five points for Ben-Hur and Messala Were Lovers and, on account of his Motor City hometown, Made In Detroit.

Politics

Former Conservative MP Sir John Hannam represented Exeter for twenty-seven years, championed disability rights, and wasn’t a homophobe. His death netting nine points as the fifth UK MP to get scratched off the list of No More Expenses was more interesting than anything I could find about his life. Oh, he liked opera too..zzzzzzzz….
