Steve Priest

BLOCKBUSTED

Steve Priest has died after a period of ill health. He was best known as the bassist in The Sweet, the glam rock band behind 70s hits such as Blockbuster. Steve Priest had a flamboyant on stage personality full of make up and deliberate campness, a 180 turn from his preference for a quiet private life. He left the band in 1979 and refused several times to rejoin Andy Scott. He was a unique hit for theme team Death to all but metal and dame Vera Lynn. Priest’s death continues the trend of Sweet band members struggling to achieve longevity – Brian Connolly and Mick Tucker are long dead now too – and now deadpool eyes will be watching guitarist Andy Scott with a close eye.
