Olympia Dukakis

DEATH EQUALS DEATH

Oscar winning actress Olympia Dukakis has died aged 89.She started a stage career early, and only transferred to films in her mid 30s. Dukakis won the Oscar in 1987 for playing Rose Castorini, Cher’s mother in Moonstruck. It was her natural chemistry with the late John Mahoney (Frasier Crane’s dead) that swung it, no doubt. In the 90s she wound up in a bunch of those films that never off the TV despite their quality – Mr Holland’s Opus, the Look Who’s Talking sequels, one of the Naked Gun films. However she was a TV regular on US screens well into her late 80s.  She was picked by two teams: Awarded Oscarites, and A Bunch of Punts, a theme team based on a Deathlist Forum game over names unlikely to die!
