Mitzi McCall

MCCALL AND STILL

US comic Mitzi McCall has died aged 93 (or 91, depending on which obit you read). She formed the “McCall and Brill” husband-and-wife comedy act with Charlie Brill, and the pair were a common sight on US tubes in the 50s and 60s. Indeed, they were there for one of television’s most pivotal days in US pop culture history as they were one of the acts on The Ed Sullivan Show in the same episode the Beatles made their stateside debut. Beyond the mop-tops, they also played the bickering “Fun Couple” on Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In, and McCall appeared without Brill on Maude, Seinfeld, Dharma & Gregg, and as a cartoon voice in various Hanna-Barbera and Nickelodeon products. She was picked by a fun couple of teams in Laugh-in to the Grave and Kids and their Dead Dog.
