Judy Dyble

CARNIVAL IS OVER

Original Fairport Convention singer Judy Dyble has died after a short battle with cancer. Dyble’s run in Fairport Convention did not last long but her role in music lore lasted, including tales such as her quietly knitting in the front row while Richard Thompson and Jimi Hendrix jammed together on stage. In 1973, she left the music business to become a librarian, but appeared at Convention reunions. And in the last decade, several demos of her earlier work were discovered, opening up her era of Fairport Convention to newer and younger folk fans. She was picked by 6 teams, including DDP living legend The Living End, and regular veterans Carkers Convention 2020. Presumably it was to be held in Maryport (you’ll never leave) but postponed due to Covid?
