LIZ WARDED OFF

Britcom regular Josephine Tewson has spilled her last coffee aged 91. A regular in sketches featuring the Two Ronnies during the late 60s, she was a routine sidekick to Ronnie Barker in the decades since and co-starred with him in his final sitcom, Clarence. Other recurring sitcom roles were in Shelley and Odd Man Out, but her biggest was as Hyacinth Bucket’s long-suffering neighbour Elizabeth Warden (isn’t she a senator from Massachusetts?) in Keeping Up Appearances. The kindly Liz was one of the snooty Hyacinth’s few real friends and frequently stopped by for coffee, though the stress of appearing proper around Hyacinth jinxed her into being klutzier than typical. Tewson was present for the tail end of Last of the Summer Wine as emotional librarian Miss Davenport, and spent the 2010s touring her one-woman show, popping up in Two Ronnies documentaries, and making the obligatory Doctors appearances. Comedy Cremations is now a quarter dead, while Last of the Summer Winos and The Colnbrook Corner also score.
